Cliff sang this old standard on the 'Me And My Shadows' shows during mid 1961. He recorded the track at EMI's Abbey Road Studios on 4 May 1961 along with three other songs with a 'dream' theme for inclusion on the EP of the same name released in November that year. ALL I DO IS DREAM OF YOU was also recorded the same day and this song featured in the Luxembourg radio shows around the same time. Both titles are given a jazzy style interpretation with Jet Harris' bass very much to the fore. The other two songs on the Dream EP – Dream and When I Grow Too Old To Dream – were not performed on the 'Me And My Shadows' Luxembourg shows. The quality of the recording is only fair but is constant throughout without any interference marring the broadcast. MC: did Hank nurse a secret desire to play in a dance band? Well, probably not, but he does an fair imitation of the type here as also on [#02] All I Do Is Dream Of You. The RL cut, adorned with assorted whistles and crackles, and going the rounds it seems reproducing at a variety of speeds, was very similar in approach to the EP track. |
