This Shadows’ instrumental sounds like and indeed must be designed as high parody – with a name like The Monkees and antics to match you are asking for it – with all sorts of OTT loco and other noises. In The Ventures' case, it is very much a Gerry McGee showcase (see under [37], on his involvement with The Monkees). It powers along in fine style with plenty of clattering percussion and forceful rhythm support from Don Wilson; as announced in the introduction to the song on this 2002 CD, Last Train … was one of the numbers on McGee’s solo Album My Guitar Memories from May 2002. |
